Opti is building the Internet of Stormwater to protect our water resources. Opti integrates weather forecasts, cloud services, and an Internet-of-Things hardware platform to offer real-time monitoring and control to enhance the value of water infrastructure. Stormwater management is one of the most pressing urban environmental issues in the developed world. In the US alone, over 900 billion gallons of raw sewage is discharged into natural water bodies every year due to combined sewer overflows. In addition, stormwater runoff can carry pollutants from urban and agricultural land into natural water bodies, resulting in eutrophication. Opti automatically controls when and how fast stormwater flows using forecast information to predict the amount of rain that will enter a watershed and preparing the system to receive the forecasted water based on site objectives and regulations. The use of Opti results in significant improvements in the performance of stormwater infrastructure and environmental and human health.

Higg Co. is a software company that provides the Higg Index and related sustainability assessment tools that enable global brands, retailers and manufacturers to improve the environmental and social performance of their factories and products.

The Higg Index was originally created by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), the apparel, footwear, and textile industry’s leading alliance for sustainable production. Patagonia and Wal-Mart formed the SAC in 2010 with the proposition that standardized measurement of sector impact would incentivize companies to reduce environmental impact and increase social justice.

The Higg Index is a suite of tools for the standardized measurement of value chain sustainability, and it is central to the SAC’s mission to transform businesses for exponential impact. It is comprised of a core set of five tools that together assess the social and environmental performance of the value chain and the environmental impacts of products, including the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM), Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (FSLM), Higg Brand & Retail Module (BRM), Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), and Higg Product Module (PM).

Across topics such as water use, carbon emissions, and labor conditions, consumer goods brands, retailers, manufacturers, governments, NGOs, and consumers can use the Higg Index to inform their individual sustainability strategies and drive collective industry transformation. Higg developed the methodologies of the Higg Index over ten years using the latest scientific research, in partnership with SAC members, consultants, stakeholders, and industry experts.
